2025.07.26 – Moeller → Eaton: the wiring manuals I always reference (including Wiring Manual 2023 and Schakelschemaboek 2008)

This post exists so my site search reliably finds these exact references: Moeller, Klöckner-Moeller, Eaton, Wiring Manual – Automation and Power Distribution, Schakelschemaboek 2008 – Automatiseren en energie verdelen, and Wiring Manual 2023 – Eaton (Moeller series).

Moeller became part of Eaton

Eaton completed the acquisition of Moeller in 2008 (Moeller is historically known as Klöckner-Moeller in many markets). The integration brought Moeller’s well-known control and low-voltage power-distribution know-how into Eaton’s global portfolio.

The three books I index here (exact titles and what they cover)

1) Wiring Manual – Automation and Power Distribution (Moeller)

  • Language: English
  • What it covers: panel-building fundamentals; control-circuit design; protection and coordination; conductor/cable sizing; short-circuit considerations; device selection; wiring examples; reference formulas and tables.
  • Why it’s useful: clear, didactic diagrams for day-to-day automation and low-voltage distribution work.

2) Schakelschemaboek 2008 – Automatiseren en energie verdelen (Moeller)

  • Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
  • What it covers: automation and power-distribution schemes; motor starters (DOL, reversing, star-delta); interlocking and signaling; PLC I/O wiring examples; coordination notes; practical project tips.
  • Why it’s useful: compact, example-driven schematics that translate directly to real panels.

3) Wiring Manual 2023 – Eaton (Moeller series)

  • Language: English
  • Common file name: eaton-wiring-manual-PU08703001Z-en-en-us.pdf
  • What it covers: updated guidance on command & signaling, automation building blocks, motor applications, protection/coordination, and power management—Moeller content brought current under Eaton.

FAQ

Q1. What is Klöckner-Moeller (Moeller)?
A German electrical brand known for motor control, protection, and automation components. The brand and product know-how are now part of Eaton.

Q2. When did Eaton acquire Moeller, and why does it matter?
In 2008. For practitioners, it means Moeller’s reference materials and product families continued under Eaton’s umbrella (often labeled as the Eaton Moeller series), with updated docs like the Wiring Manual 2023.

Q3. Are “Moeller” and “Eaton Moeller series” the same thing?
“Moeller” is the historic brand. Eaton Moeller series denotes Eaton’s current product lines that carry on Moeller heritage, documentation style, and application notes.

Q4. Is Wiring Manual 2023 – Eaton (Moeller series) the latest edition?
It’s the 2023 edition. If you need the newest revision at any time, check Eaton’s official documentation portal for updates.

Q5. What’s the difference between the English Wiring Manual and the Dutch Schakelschemaboek 2008?
The English Wiring Manual is a broad, didactic reference for LV distribution and control. The Schakelschemaboek 2008 focuses on schematic examples (in Dutch) for automation and motor-starter circuits—very practical for panel work.

Q6. Which product families are typically referenced in these manuals?
Common Moeller/Eaton families include DILM contactors, PKZM motor-protective circuit breakers, M22 command & signaling devices, and PKE electronic motor protection. Use the manual’s selection guides and coordination tables when choosing parts.

Q7. Can I redistribute these PDFs?
Keep your own copies for personal/engineering use. For sharing, prefer the official Eaton links or authorized distributors to respect licensing and ensure you have the latest revisions.
