FORMATION OF ROMANIA
● In 1859 Wallachia and Moldavia united under Alexandru Ioan Cuza.
● That union created the foundation of modern Romania.
● ⚔️ The event is also known as the Union of the Principalities.
● In 1877 Romania declared independence from the Ottoman Empire.
● International recognition followed the Russo-Turkish War of 1877–1878.
● 📜 Independence allowed Romania to act as a sovereign state.
● In 1918 the Great Union included Transylvania, Bessarabia, and Bukovina.
● That expansion shaped the borders of Greater Romania.
● 🏰 The Great Union marked the consolidation of national territory.
● In 1947 the monarchy was abolished.
● The People’s Republic of Romania was proclaimed the same year.
● ⚖️ This political shift established a new state structure.
RELATIONSHIP WITH ROME
● The territory was a Roman province between 106 and 271 AD.
● The province was known as Dacia.
● 🏺 Roman culture and language influenced the region permanently.
● In 271 AD Emperor Aurelian withdrew troops and administration.
● After 271 the region continued cultural romanization without political control.
● 🌍 By 1200 the territory was divided into principalities under local or foreign rulers.
● In that period no separation event with Rome occurred.
● The medieval identity combined Latin heritage with Slavic, Hungarian, and Byzantine elements.
● 🛡️ The development of Romanian culture progressed independently.
